Hey, you know what’s awesome? When you have a big set to build and you’re not sure where to start and somebody steps up and offers to weld a bunch of scrap metal together to make a bunch of neat looking stuff. [Read more…]
Concert Credits and Thank Yous
Wow, what a night. I am still reeling from it all. Lung presented a stunning photo exhibit in the lobby of NACC, played on a beautiful grand piano with an incredible cast of musicians and dancers, nearly 200 friends in the audience, the whole thing was pretty amazing. Fortunately we filmed the whole thing and there will be clips online soon. In the meantime, we posted these bios on the wall beside the entrance but in case you didn’t have a chance to see it – here are all the amazing folks who took part in this event: [Read more…]
A Letter To Friends
Hi everyone,
As most of you know, I’ve been working hard on launching my very first album on January 17 at NACC. This has been a huge undertaking and has taken years to get from the first piano tracks in the desert at Charlie’s trailer, to recording the final tracks in Yellowknife and with my friend and producer Jeremy, in England.
What’s an even bigger deal for me right now is that I’m doing this at my dream venue for this event, where they have a beautiful piano and stage and the technical abilities to bring this story to life. We will have nearly ten musicians playing over the course of the evening, dancers, and a set based on Charlie’s live-in art installation he created in the desert. As many of you know, Charlie passed away in May of last year so the concert is also to honor his memory and to present a kind of offering to him.
So what I am asking for right now, with nearly two weeks left to go, is your help. [Read more…]
Charlie and I at The Range, Slab City. 2008.
It’s four in the morning, the end of december
I’m writing you now just to see if you’re better
New york is cold, but I like where I’m living
There’s music on Clinton Street all through the evening.I hear that you’re building your little house deep in the desert
You’re living for nothing now, I hope you’re keeping some kind of record.Yes, and jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
Did you ever go clear?
Searching For A Ritual

In a sense, the concert is the ritual. It started out as a very personal one, to finally step into my shoes as a person who was doing that thing they love, instead of just talking about it. [Read more…]
Inside Journeys Outside at NACC, January 17
Through all the madness I have not taken the time to write about this yet, which is ridiculous because in about three weeks I will be launching my very first album, Inside Journeys Outside, at NACC, in Yellowknife, NT. This project has taken on huge emotional significance as it is not only the result of over ten years of writing, following through on songs I wrote in high school and some even before then, but it is about Charlie, who helped me record those first piano tracks in the desert over three years ago, and who passed away before I really got a chance to say thank you in a meaningful way.
