Filmed by the fantastic Joanna Grant, these are two highlights from the June 23 concert at NACC. Andrea Bettger is one incredible violinist, and it was a pleasure to share the stage with her once again. Watch the videos here!
Thank you’s and what’s next
I want to extend a huge thank you and gratitude to everyone who came and helped out at my show on Thursday. It meant so much to me to share the evening with all of you, to read your reflections on home and to sing them on stage, and the dream tree! oh my goodness. It was so wonderful to explore after the show. Thank you so much for taking part.
Thank YOU’s (in no particular order)

Workshops!!
As many of you know, I have been training intensely in vocal improvisation in groups and facilitation using the arts and creativity, specifically in the creation of transformative spaces. I’m about to head back to Asheville for the second half of my training in Art of Facilitation, and then off to California for a week of vocal improvisation with Rhiannon, a mentor who has traveled the world teaching and has toured with Bobby McFerrin and his group Voicestra.
I’m excited to share this work with you all, and the picture is still forming of what that will look like. There will likely be a singing circle, and possibly a larger arts project and circle as well, in which we will explore our creativity and power together in a broader sense. This work has been deeply transformative for me and I look forward to sharing it with those of you who feel it’s the right thing for you.
I won’t be in touch much while I’m away, but will be back in mid-July.

A New Lake, A New Life.
Now that the lake has frozen there are a few extra annoyances, and some things are easier too. I’ve been collecting water from the lake, but now I am chipping ice with an axe and melting it on the propane stove. My dog can no longer go on island off-leash because she might cross the ice to shore and bark at poor unsuspecting skiiers. But on the upside, we too will be skiing to Burwash very soon and I no longer have to paddle to shore in high winds just to take her for a walk. And probably in a few days it’ll be thick enough to drive home!
Freeze-Up on the Bay
One night I was sitting in my canoe on the edge of the lake, 55km/h winds and white caps breaking on the dark water. My second life jacket whipped in my hands as I placed it on the floor of the canoe to kneel on. I knew with one shove my boat would slide down the icy rocks and I’d land in the rough waters, and that getting back out would be impossible if I chickened out. Looking out, no lights were on at any of the other houseboats, and my phone would quickly lose battery life from the cold if I took it out of my pocket to call for help if I wasn’t able to handle myself on the water. North Paws – A Dogumentary
A few years ago I helped out with a campaign to rally votes for an SPCA-run animal shelter in the Northwest Territories. What happened was far beyond any of our wildest dreams – a community of less than twenty thousand people had over half a million votes and won $500 000 to construct a much-needed animal shelter for the NWT.
